Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose are pleased to announce the organization will retire former captain Mike Keane's jersey #12 when the Moose face the San Antonio Rampage as part of Mike Keane Tribute Night on Saturday, February 12th at MTS Centre.

Beginning at 7:30 pm, a special pre-game ceremony will pay tribute to the hockey career of the three-time Stanley Cup champion. Mike's hockey career has spanned nearly four decades; from the outdoor rinks of Sir John Franklin Community Centre, to the Assiniboine Park Rangers, to a successful junior stint with the Moose Jaw Warriors, a 22-year professional career with six different National Hockey League teams and finally to an illustrious career with the Manitoba Moose.

Puck drop for the game between the Moose and Rampage is scheduled to be at approximately 8:00 pm.

The first 4,000 fans in attendance on Mike Keane Tribute Night will receive a commemorative Mike Keane #12 replica mini-banner in honor of the former Moose captain.

In five seasons with the Moose, Keane scored 36 goals and 78 assists for 114 points and 244 penalty minutes in 365 games. In 59 Calder Cup playoff games, he scored eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points and 25 penalty minutes. Back in 2006-07, he was the recipient of the American Hockey League's Fred T. Hunt Award for sportsmanship, determination, and dedication to the game of hockey. Keane was also selected as the captain of the Canadian team at the 2007 Rbk Hockey AHL All-Star Classic in Toronto, ON. In his previous 22 seasons, Keane has won three Stanley Cups (Montreal '93, Colorado '96, Dallas '99) and played in 1,230 NHL games where he's scored 171 goals and 484 points as well as 947 penalty minutes with Montreal, Colorado, Dallas, the New York Rangers, St. Louis, and Vancouver. He saw action in 443 career AHL games where he's scored 61 goals and 182 points and collected 314 penalty minutes. Prior to joining the Moose, Keane also appeared in the American Hockey League with the Sherbrooke Canadiens back in the 1987-88 season. He made his professional debut with the Canadiens in 1987 and helped them advance to the Calder Cup Final. Keane played his 1,500th career hockey game as a professional on February 3/09 versus the Lake Erie Monsters.
