San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage (26-33-8-0) completed a season sweep of the Grand Rapids Griffins (41-22-1-1) on Tuesday, topping the Central Division-leaders 2-1 in front of 3,549 at the AT&T Center. The Silver and Black finish the season 4-0-0-0 against Grand Rapids.
Trevor Cheek and Alex Belzile each tallied goals, earning the First and Third Star of the Game, respectively, and Spencer Martin finished with 30 saves on 31 shots, earning the Second Star of the Game.
Past the midway point of the opening period, Duncan Siemens sent a shot wide of the net. The puck bounced off the boards to Alex Belzile, who flipped the puck over Tom McCollum to give San Antonio an early 1-0 lead. Martin Frk evened the game at one late in the period, putting the puck off Martin's skate and in, snapping a 171:56 shutout streak against the Griffins.
San Antonio re-took the lead early in the middle stanza on a great individual effort by Cheek, who worked the puck past the Grand Rapids defense in the slot and fired a shot past McCollum to give the Rampage a 2-1 lead. Martin made 10 saves in the frame, and the Rampage held onto a one-goal lead entering the second intermission.
Grand Rapids outshot the Rampage 13-12 in the final 20 minutes of regulation, but Martin and the San Antonio defense stood tall, hanging on for a 2-1 win.
Notes
With the primary assist on Cheek's second-period goal, Garry Nunn now has six points in seven games since signing a professional tryout contract on March 8...Tuesday's game marked the 100th professional game for forward Borna Rendulic...
Lineup Notes
San Antonio's top line remained unchanged from Sunday's game against the Griffins. Alex Belzile moved up to the second line, playing alongside Sam Henley and Reid Petryk. Martin made his second consecutive start in net.
