San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, Texas --- One of the Colts' most popular players has returned.
The Colts announced Friday they have signed infielder Mark Ramos. Ramos spent the last two seasons in a Colts' uniform. Last year he hit .319 with nine home runs and 51 RBIs in 81 games. In 2010 he batted .310 with a home run and 30 RBIs in 75 games with San Angelo.
Ramos began his professional career in 2009 with the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings. He went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in six games.
The 25-year-old has yet to play this season, but he believes he is ready to help the Colts make a final push into the postseason.
"It takes about a week or two to get your legs under you, but I have been running and had a few weeks' notice that I would be coming back," Ramos said. "Doc likes what I do and respects what I do, so that gives me a lot of confidence."
Now in his fourth pro season, Ramos has a .315 career average, 10 home runs and 82 RBIs in 161 games. Ramos is a native of East Moline, Ill.
In order to make room for Ramos on the active roster, the Colts also placed outfielder J.J. Sherrill on the Inactive List. Sherrill leads the team with a .354 average, and has a home run and 16 RBIs in 47 games. He has been in and out of the lineup lately, nursing injuries he sustained earlier in the year.
Tonight San Angelo begins a two-game series against the Edinburg Roadrunners at Foster Field. It is Eye Black Giveaway Night, sponsored by Heidi Douma State Farm. The first 1,000 fans through the front gates will receive free Colts' eye black strips, courtesy of Heidi Douma State Farm. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
The Colts are a member of United League Baseball who are in their 13th season. Tickets are on sale now, and available at the Colts' front office at Foster Field.
