Harlingen, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley White Wings scored five runs in the eighth inning to defeat the McAllen Thunder by a score of 11-5 on Friday night at Harlingen Field.
Fidel Hernandez went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to pace the White Wings (37-29) offense. Hernandez had RBIs in the seventh and eighth innings.
The Thunder (25-42) got the scoring started in the second inning when Henry Gonzales grounded out to drive in to drive Gio Rosa, who reached on a double to start the inning. Then Roberto Rodriguez would drive the second run to make it 2-0.
The White Wings would get the two runs back in the third inning on RBI single by Leguim Barroso and Leivi Ventura to tie it up at two.
Both teams would trade runs until the White Wings scored five runs off Thunder reliever Kurt Houck (2-4), who took the loss.
Wander Perez (1-1) earned the victory while tossing over two and a third innings while walking two and gave two runs in the process.
The Thunder and White Wings will continue their eight game series on Saturday night at Harlingen with the first pitch at 7:05 p.m.
