
Roadrunners Hang On For Victory Over Thunder

EDINBURG, Texas-The Edinburg Roadrunners fended off a late rally by the McAllen Thunder defeating them 3-2 Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The Roadrunners' bullpen held on for the win after starting pitcher Jose Oyervidez (2-0) allowed just one run in six innings of work.
Edinburg jumped out to the early lead in the top of the second. Derek Perren reached on a single to left but a fielding error allowed him to move all the way to third. Felix Molina followed with an RBI ground out to second that allowed Perren to score for the 1-0 lead.
Wilmer Pino gave the Roadrunners (51-33) another run in the top of the third as he hit an RBI single that drove in Tim Battle making it 2-0.
The Thunder (30-54) got their only run off of Oyervidez in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double by Miguel Alfonzo which cut the Roadrunners lead in half 2-1.
In the top of the fifth, Pino hit a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded that allowed Osiel Flores to score extending Edinburg's lead 3-1.
McAllen made it a one-run game in the bottom of the eighth. After Gianison Rosa singled he stole second and moved to third on the throwing error. Alfonzo then hit an RBI ground out to third allowing Rosa to score making it 3-2 Edinburg.
Paul Koss allowed the tying run into scoring position but got Fidel Hernandez to fly out to center for his seventh save of the season giving the Roadrunners the 3-2 victory.
Both teams will have Wednesday night off before starting another four-game series Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. The Roadrunners will be the home team with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
