Sacramento River Cats News Release

West Sacramento, Calif. - The Sacramento River Cats (42-54) were handed a trio of surprise "home" games with the postponement and subsequent relocation of their series with the Reno Aces (58-39) back to West Sacramento. They took advantage of the familiarity and handed the first-place Aces a two-run loss on Friday night at Sutter Health Park.

The River Cats quickly found themselves down two after Alek Thomas led off the game with a homer and Cooper Hummel added an RBI single facing veteran lefty Scott Kazmir. Though Sacramento wasted no time jumping on young right-hander Luis Frias, tagging him for four runs in the second inning thanks to an Arismendy Alcántara triple, a Steven Duggar single, and a Jason Vosler double. The third baseman Vosler's 10th two-bagger of the season plated a pair and turned Reno's two-run lead into a two-run deficit.

Right fielder Heliot Ramos kept the runs coming in the fourth and sixth innings, driving in a total of three with a single in each frame. Ramos also stole a base, finishing the game 2-for-4 with a walk.

The River Cats will be back at it tomorrow with the Aces for game two of the series. Right-hander Matt Shoemaker is scheduled to make his third start since joining Sacramento, while Reno will go with righty Matt Tabor. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. (PT). Listen to Johnny Doskow call the game live online at rivercats.com or on the MiLB First Pitch app.

Additional Notes

After Thursday's series opener in Reno was postponed due to wildfire smoke, three games were relocated to Sutter Health Park where the Aces are serving as the home team. It is still to be determined whether Sunday's 1:00 P.M. game will be extended into two seven-inning games as part of a doubleheader to make up for Thursday's postponement.

After allowing an earned run in his return to Sacramento on Aug. 6, right-handed reliever John Brebbia has struck out 11 batters while allowing just three baserunners in 4.2 scoreless innings, including a dominant seventh inning on Friday where he struck out three straight on 14 pitches.

Center fielder Steven Duggar stole two bases in Friday night's game, giving him six in just 11 games since being optioned by San Francisco on Aug 7. It's also the fourth consecutive game in which he has stolen a base.
