SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Alek Thomas' 4-for-5 performance at the dish was not enough as the Reno Aces dropped its Friday night contest to the Sacramento River Cats, 7-5, at Sutter Health Park.

Thomas racked up a season-high four base knocks in tonight's contest, including his first career Triple-A home run in the opening frame. The No. 4-rated prospect in the Diamondbacks' system also drove in a trio of runs and scored once.

Stefan Crichton dominated in his two innings of work out of the bullpen, allowing just one walk and striking out a pair of batters.

Aces' Luis Frias loaded the bases on three walks in the opening frame but worked himself out of trouble with a lineout, one strikeout and a groundout to second.

After a blank top of the first, Thomas delivered a leadoff solo shot in the bottom half to give Reno a 1-0 lead. Cooper Hummel pushed the Aces' advantage to two, 2-0, while snapping a 0-for-8 drought with his RBI single to center.

The River Cats took the lead in the top of the second, scoring four runs on three hits to take a 4-2 edge.

Following a scoreless third, Sacramento put two more tallies on the board in the fourth on a two-run single by Joey Bart, taking a four-tick lead, 6-2.

The Aces disrupted the six unanswered tallies scored by the River Cats after a leadoff double by Jake Hager. Thomas drove in his second run of the night with an RBI single through the right side, bringing Hager in from third and slashing Sacramento's lead in half, 6-3.

After a blank fifth, the visiting team scored one run in the sixth frame on a single up the middle by Heliot Ramos to push the River Cats' lead back to four, 7-3.

Neither team crossed the plate in the seventh before the Aces threatened the Sacramento edge in the eighth. Jose Herrera and Stuart Fairchild drew back-to-back walks to start the frame. On a 2-2 pitch, Thomas drove a single up the middle, scoring Herrera from second, 7-4, and moving Fairchild to third. With runners on the corners and one out, Vargas slapped a double down the left-field line, scoring Fairchild and pulling Reno to within two runs, 7-5.

Former Ace and current River Cats' closer, Silvino Bracho, came on in the ninth and shut the door to give Sacramento the win.

The Aces will return to Sutter Health Park for Saturday's contest against the River Cats with first pitch slated for 6:05 p.m. PT. Saturday's contest can be heard on renoaces.com or locally on KPLY 630 AM with Zack Bayrouty on the call.
