Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Winston-Salem Dash bounced back against Asheville with a five run victory, 8-3.
The Tourists did get on the board first. In the bottom of the second inning, Zach Daniels walked, stole second base, then moved to third on a wild pitch. That set him up perfectly to score on a single by Luis Guerrero to put Asheville ahead 1-0.
Winston-Salem got back-to-back singles from Tyler Osik and Bryan Ramos to open up the third inning. Luis Mieses then drove in Osik when his groundball to short was misplayed by Deury Carrasco to tie the game. With Ramos at third base, Adam Hackenberg was able to drive him in with a sacrifice fly to right field, and the Dash pulled ahead 2-1.
Asheville did tie the game again in the bottom of the third, on a solo home run by Michael Sandle**.**
The Dash bounced right back in the fourth, beginning with a walk from Alsander Womack**.* *Caberea Weaver* doubled after that and Womack was held at third, before *Duke Ellis** was also walked to load the bases. Tyler Osik drew a full count before taking ball four, to force Weaver across the plate. Later, Bryan Ramos laced a single back up the middle to score Ellis, and the Dash jumped back ahead 4-2.
Yet again, the Tourists got a run back on a solo bomb off the bat of CJ Stubbs in the home half of the fourth inning.
But in the top of the fifth, it was Alsander Womack's turn to go yard. He turned around a 1-0 pitch from Christian Mejias for a solo home run, putting Winston-Salem ahead 5-3.
Karan Patel held Asheville off the board through the sixth and seventh innings, as the right-hander allowed just one hit while striking out three batters.
Winston-Salem added some insurance runs in the top of the eighth inning. Caberea Weaver walked to open the frame, then Duke Ellis pulled a single into right field. Weaver and Ellis both took off on the next pitch, successfully stealing third and second base respectively. After a pair of outs, Bryan Ramos plated both baseruners with his double into centerfield. Luis Mieses then brought Ramos around to score with another double, which gave the Dash a 8-3 edge.
Alex Mateo worked a near-flawless final two innings, surrendering just one walk and racking up a pair of punchouts, to preserve an 8-3 Dash win. That gave Matt Thompson his fourth win of the year, while Danny Cody took the loss.
