Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
ABERDEEN, MD - The BlueClaws split two with Aberdeen on Thursday, winning the completion of a game suspended on Wednesday night 6-3 and dropping the nightcap 5-4.
The win in game one snapped the BlueClaws (3-13/10-7/53-30) season-long losing streak at seven games, and they are now 3-14 against the IronBirds this season.
Game One
Rixon Wingrove had two hits and a home run in the win, which was suspended at the 6-3 final score in the sixth inning on Wednesday night. Jersey Shore scored three times in the first inning off Peter Van Loon (8-1), getting runs on a fielding error, passed ball, and Casey Martin RBI single.
In the third inning, Carlos De La Cruz's SAC fly put the BlueClaws up 4-0. Wingrove followed with an RBI double. The IronBirds got two back in the third and one in the fourth off Jersey Shore starter Matt Russell. Wingrove, however, added a solo home run, his seventh of the season, in the top of the sixth, to put jersey Shore up 6-3.
Russell (3-6), who earned the win, came out after allowing three runs in five innings while striking out four. Taylor Lehman, on a MiLB rehab assignment, threw two pitches in the sixth inning before the game was halted.
Jersey Shore stole four bases in the game, one each by Williams, Martin, Garcia, and Ethan Wilson.
Andrew Schutlz threw a 1-2-3 ninth inning for his first save of the year. Schultz has allowed just three earned runs in 20 innings with 35 strikeouts since May 1st.
Game Two
Trailing 5-0, the BlueClaws rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning to slice the lead to 5-4. Casey Martin doubled in a run while Jared Carr singled in another. Two more scored on an Aberdeen fielding error. Then in the ninth, the BlueClaws put two on base but Luis Garcia flied out to center off closer Xavier Moore to end the game.
Rafael Marcano (0-1) took the loss, allowing five runs/four earned in four innings. Kyle Glogoski (two), Andrew Baker and Jason Ruffcorn combined for four scoreless innings in relief.
Darrel Hernaiz hit a two run first inning home run for the IronBirds while Billy Cook drove in three with a bases loaded double in the fourth.
Mick Abel starts for the BlueClaws on Friday night at 7:05 pm. The teams will play a double-header on Saturday beginning at 4:05 pm.
