Biloxi Shuckers News Release
CHATTANOOGA, TN - In a back-and-forth affair, the Biloxi Shuckers (11-13) couldn't complete a comeback against the Chattanooga Lookouts (11-11), falling 6-5 on Sunday afternoon at AT&T Field.
Chattanooga got to Shuckers starter RHP Bowden Francis (L, 0-1) in the bottom of the second. Following a single by Tejay Antone (W, 2-2), outfielder T.J. Friedl homered to right, his first of the season, putting the Lookouts in front 2-0. Blake Allemand responded with a solo home run to right in the top of the third, his second of the year, to bring Biloxi within a run at 2-1.
The Lookouts widened their advantage in the bottom of the fourth with a three-run frame thanks to an RBI single by Alfredo Rodriguez and a two-RBI single by Friedl. The left fielder for the Lookouts would exit the game in the fourth when he appeared to injure his shoulder stealing second base.
Both Biloxi and Chattanooga notched a single run in the fifth. In the top of the sixth, Cooper Hummel singled to left and Alexander Alvarez smashed a ball that was too hot for Brantley Bell at second, allowing the Shuckers catcher to reach on an error. After a wild pitch moved Alvarez to second, Dillon Thomas delivered a pinch-hit two-RBI single to make it 6-4.
LHP Angel Perdomo hurled two scoreless frames for Biloxi in the sixth and seventh, extending his scoreless innings streak to 10.2 innings. LHP Daniel Brown also tossed a scoreless frame to keep the Shuckers within striking distance.
Following a pair of perfect innings from LHP Victor Payano (H, 1), RHP Joel Kuhnel (S, 3) entered the game in the ninth for the Lookouts. With one out, Patrick Leonard launched an opposite-field homer to right, his second of the season, to bring Biloxi within a run at 6-5. Michael O'Neill then singled to put the tying run on base, but Kuhnel forced a pair of flyball outs to end the Shuckers threat.
The series finale between the Shuckers and Lookouts gets going early at 10:15 am CT on Monday. Looking to avoid the series sweep, RHP Alec Bettinger (0-2, 8.66) takes the hill for Biloxi against Chattanooga RHP Tony Santillan (0-1, 2.84). The game can be heard locally in Biloxi on Cruisin' WGCM AM 1240/100.9 FM, TuneIn Radio or the MiLB First Pitch App.
