Mississippi Braves News Release
MOBILE, AL - Ian Anderson (W, 1-1) dealt six innings of shutout baseball and Ray-Patrick Didder recorded his first career multi-homer game as the Mississippi Braves (10-12) snapped their five-game losing streak with a 6-0 shutout of the Mobile BayBears (10-13) at Hank Aaron Stadium.
Anderson became the first M-Braves starter to notch a quality start and win in 2019 on Sunday afternoon and the No. 3 prospect for the Braves was brilliant. Anderson worked a season-high 6.0 innings of two-hit baseball, walking two and striking out a season-best eight batters.
The M-Braves offense handed Anderson a 3-0 lead before he ever took the mound. Drew Waters led off his third consecutive game with a hit and Cristian Pache followed with a double. The 20-year-old duo is tied for the league-lead with 12 extra-base hits through 20 games. Waters has reached safely in 18 of 21 games.
Waters and Pache scored on a single to left from Ryan Casteel and it was 2-0 M-Braves right out of the gates. Casteel's single extended his hitting streak to seven games.
Didder had been slumping offensively, but the 22-year-old shortstop broke out on Sunday and hit the first of his two homers in the fourth inning off Mobile starter Luis Madero (L, 0-1). The two-run shot extended the lead to 5-0.
Didder collected his second home run in the ninth inning with two outs against Mobile reliever Jeremy Beasley. The second shot traveled 402 feet to left-center. Didder joins Luis Valenzuela as M-Braves with multi-homer games in 2019.
The M-Braves tallied four extra-base hits on Sunday, running their league-leading total to 64 over 22 games.
Jordan Harrison, Jason Hursh, and Josh Graham tossed scoreless innings in the seventh, eighth and ninth behind Anderson to preserve Mississippi's fourth shutout of the season. Mobile was blanked for the sixth time this season.
The M-Braves will try to salvage two games in the five-game series on Monday morning at Hank Aaron Stadium. LHP Kyle Muller (0-1, 3.86) will take the hill for the M-Braves and face off against Mobile LHP Patrick Sandoval (0-3, 4.20). First pitch is set for 11:05 am CT with coverage beginning at 10:55 am on 103.9 FM WYAB, the free TuneIn Radio app. and MiLB.tv (subscription required).
The M-Braves will return to Trustmark Park for a ten-game homestand against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp and Pensacola Blue Wahoos, May 1-10. For tickets visit mississippibraves.com/tickets or call 888-BRAVES4!
