Birmingham Barons News Release

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - In conjunction with the Chicago White Sox, the Birmingham Barons made a trio of roster moves Sunday morning.

Outfielder Joel Booker earned a promotion to Triple-A Charlotte, while the Barons are set to receive outfielder Luis Alexander Basabe from Class-A Kannapolis. The Barons also reinstated infielder Ramon Torres from the temporary inactive list.

Basabe, ranked as the No. 7 prospect in the White Sox organization according to MLB Pipeline, began the season on the injured list before a brief transfer to Class-A Kannapolis on Monday. The Venezuelan product, whom the White Sox acquired as part of the Chris Sale exchange with the Boston Red Sox on Dec. 6, 2016, recorded six hits across five games with the Intimidators. He also drew four walks and stole one base.

Basabe, a member of the White Sox 40-man roster, batted .251 with six home runs, 26 RBI and nine stolen bases through 61 games with the Barons during the 2018 season.

Booker, 25, established himself as one of the Southern League's top offensive threats in the early going of the 2019 season. The former 22nd-round selection paced the league with a .351 clip at the plate and owned top-10 marks league-wide in on-base percentage (.400), hits (26) and stolen bases (8).

Booker will earn his first taste of Triple-A ball after he spent 86 games across two seasons in Birmingham.

Torres, 26, was placed on the temporary inactive list Wednesday. The former Kansas City Royals infielder has appeared in 10 games with the Barons in 2019 to the tune of a .286 average.

Birmingham's active roster now stands at 24 players with three on the injured list.
