Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. -- The Tacoma Rainiers fell behind early and stayed there in a 5-3 loss to the Sacramento River Cats at Cheney Stadium on Thursday night.
After putting together three perfect frames, the Rainiers surrendered three runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning. Joaquin Arias put the River Cats up 1-0 after delivering an RBI single with no outs. Sacramento's lead ballooned to 3-0 thanks to two-run double from Jarrett Parker one out later.
The lead grew to 5-0 before Tacoma tallied its first and only runs of the game in the sixth. Patrick Kivlehan floated a double to deep center field that scored Chris Taylor from third with one out. Back-to-back RBI singles hit by John Hicks and Sean O'Malley accounted for the final runs the Rainiers would roll out in the contest.
Tacoma collected a total of ten hits, led by two-hit efforts from Ramon Flores, Stefen Romero, and Patrick Kivlehan. Flores has now reached base safely in 13 consecutive games and is batting .449 (22x49) in 13 games since joining the Rainiers on July 31. Chris Taylor went 1-for-3 with a single to extend his on-base streak to 18 games.
Starter Roenis Elias (3-2) was left with the loss after allowing five runs, four earned, on five hits through 5.0 innings. The left-hander struck out four and walked two in his 11th start with the Rainiers this season.
Relievers Logan Kensing (2.0), Danny Farquhar (1.0), and J.C. Ramirez (1.0) combined to hold Sacramento to one hit and struck out three through 4.0 innings of work out of the bullpen.
The Rainiers (56-63) wrap up a nine-game homestand with a 7:05 p.m. game against the Sacramento River Cats (56-63) tomorrow, August 14. Sammamish native Adrian Sampson (1-1, 4.50) is scheduled to start for Tacoma. Sacramento is slated to start right-hander Tommy Hanson (0-5, 8.90).
