Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA, Neb. - In front of a sellout crowd, the 12th in Werner Park history, the Omaha Storm Chasers (66-54) scored the final four runs of the game to defeat the Memphis Redbirds (62-58) by a 4-2 final. It is the third straight win for Omaha, coming after their season-high five-game losing streak.

The Storm Chasers were held scoreless in the first four innings of the game, but after a leadoff single by Brett Eibner, Francisco Pena tripled him in and also scored two batters later. It was the first triple for Pena in a Storm Chasers uniform and seventh overall in his career. Francisco scored the final run of the game for Omaha as well on a Memphis passed ball in the seventh, accounting for three of the four runs for the Chasers in the win.

Andy Ferguson allowed only two runs in 4.2 innings, with one of the two runs scoring after his exit, and the Omaha bullpen combined for 4.1 shutout innings. With only the two runs given up the Storm Chasers lowered their team ERA to 3.75, third best in the Pacific Coast League. If they hold that mark, it would be the lowest team ERA for Omaha in the PCL history (first year was 1998) and their lowest mark since 1990.

The win ended the season series with Memphis, with each team winning eight games apiece. It is the third time in the last four seasons the two teams have split their season series, the exception being 2013 when the Redbirds won nine of the 16 games.

The Storm Chasers now head to Salt Lake, for the first time since they clinched the 2013 PCL Championship on that field. In the series opener, Omaha RHP Clayton Mortensen (7-9, 5.70 ERA) faces off with Bees LHP Adam Wilk (4-9, 5.71 ERA). First pitch on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and MiLB.TV is scheduled for 8:05 p.m.
