New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
Ronny Torreyes snapped a 10th-inning tie with an RBI single, and the Oklahoma City Dodgers completed a four-game sweep with a 6-4 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Friday night.
The Zephyrs lost for the 20th time in their last 24 home games, and dropped eight games on a homestand for the first time since 2006.
O'Koyea Dickson drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a fly out to the center field wall. Torryes lined a single to right, and the ball skipped away from Isaac Galloway momentarily, allowing Dickson enough time to slide in ahead of the throw for the go-ahead run.
Andy Wilkins added an insurance run with an RBI single, and Adam Liberatore worked around a one-out single by Marcell Ozuna in the bottom of the 10th to pick up his third save.
Corey Seager's sacrifice fly in the first inning cashed in a double by Darnell Sweeney to lead off the game, giving the Dodgers a quick 1-0 lead. It marked the sixth time during the nine-game homestand the Z's allowed at least one run in the opening frame, getting outscored 11-0 in the process.
Oklahoma City added another sacrifice fly in the fourth, as Kyle Jensen scored on Shawn Zarraga's fly out to left, but Donovan Solano cut off the throw home and relayed to third base to cut down Scott Schebler attempting to advance for the final out of the inning.
The Zephyrs carried the momentum into their half of the frame. Vinny Rottino drew a leadoff walk and Marcell Ozuna followed with a single before Brady Shoemaker crushed a three-run homer to left, his eighth of the year and only the third home run by a Zephyr in 14 August games.
Z's starter Ivan Pineyro bounced back from a rocky Triple-A debut to pitch seven strong innings, limiting the Dodgers to two runs and four hits over seven innings. Pineyro struck out four, walked one and retired the final 10 batters he faced.
Dickson began the Dodgers' eighth-inning rally with a leadoff single against Eric Cordier, who then walked Ronny Torreyes and hit Corey Seager with a pitch to load the bases. Wilkins worked the count full before lacing a single up the middle to push the Dodgers in front.
New Orleans again responded in the bottom of the inning. Reid Brignac roped a leadoff double into the right field corner, moved to third on a single by Ozuna and scored when Shoemaker ripped a line drive off pitcher Ramon Troncoso.
Ozuna finished with three hits for the Zephyrs, while Shoemaker set a season high by knocking in four runs.
Troncoso (4-1) was credited with the win after recording four strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings of relief, while Nick Wittgren (1-4) took the loss.
The Zephyrs open an eight-game road trip through California on Saturday with the opener of a four-game set in Fresno. First pitch is scheduled for 9:05 p.m. Central.
