Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tacoma, WA - A dose of steady pitching steered the Tacoma Rainiers to a 4-1 win over the Salt Lake Bees in front of 5,576 fans at Cheney Stadium on Saturday night.
Starter Luke French allowed just one run on five hits over seven innings of work in a winning effort over the Bees, while issuing two walks with one strikeout. The left-hander is now tied with Chris Seddon for the team lead with six wins this season.
Relievers Cesar Jimenez and Josh Lueke combined to record two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, with the right-hander Lueke collecting the final four outs en route to picking up his team-leading 10th save of the season.
At the plate, Rainiers outfielder Michael Saunders gave the Rainiers an early 1-0 lead after hitting a solo home run, his second of the season, with one out in the first inning.
Bees designated hitter Jeff Baisley tied the score at 1-1 in the top of the sixth after lining a single to left field that scored shortstop Andrew Romine.
Tacoma re-took the lead in the bottom of the inning on outfielder Ryan Langerhans' one-out solo home run, his 13th of the season and fifth over his last seven games.
The Rainiers added some insurance over the next two frames. Mike Wilson's RBI-double drove in one run in the seventh and Alex Liddi's two-out single plated one more in the eighth.
Salt Lake starter Eric Junge was dealt the loss after surrendering three runs to the Rainiers on six hits over seven innings with seven strikeouts.
The Rainiers (47-47) look to secure a four-game sweep of Salt Lake when they take field for their series finale with the Bees at 1:35 p.m. on Sunday. Left-hander Anthony Vasquez (1-1, 4.97) is slated to get the nod for Tacoma against Salt Lake right-hander Bear Bay (6-5, 4.76). The game will be broadcast live on South Sound Sports 850-AM and can be streamed online at www.tacomarainiers.com.
