Zephyrs Fall to Omaha 7-4

Papillion, NE -Metairie native Johnny Giavotella drilled a pair of home runs and had four hits in the Omaha 7-4 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Sunday. The former Jesuit and UNO star had four hits in four at bats, scored three runs and drove home two to beat his hometown team.

Giavotella drilled a solo home run in the first inning to give the Storm Chasers an early advantage. The Zephyrs answered with a run in the second inning to tie the game on a Tim Torres RBI double. Clint Robinson drilled a two run home run the third inning to put Omaha ahead 3-1.

Giavotella continued his terrific day with a solo home run in the fourth inning. The Zephyrs would rally with a run in the sixth and two runs in the seventh to tie the game. Joe Thurston led the way for New Orleans with two hits and two RBI.

David Lough and Kila Ka'aihue took advantage of two walks and picked up RBI hits in the bottom of the seventh inning and Omaha scored three runs off of reliever Dan Jennings. Jeff Suppan started the game and pitched seven innings and earned the win for Omaha. Jennings suffered the loss in relief.

Jessie Chavez struckout all three batters in the ninth for his eleventh save.

Game Notes -The Zephyrs scored 20 two out RBI's in the four game series. Mike Cervenak extended his hit streak to 13 games, he is 21x52 and 17 RBI during the streak. New Orleans earned a split in Omaha with each team winning two games.

Coming Up: The Zephyrs continue their 12 game road-trip in Round Rock, Texas on Monday at 7. The Zephyrs and Express meet in the first of a four game set. New Orleans will start RH Adalberto Mendez (1-6, 6.92) against Express LH Zach Jackson (6-3, 5.59). RADIO: WMTI 106.1 FM.
