Tacoma Rainiers News Release

TACOMA, Wash. -- The Tacoma Rainiers were the victims of a strong pitching performance from Colorado Springs' starter Christian Friedrich in a 2-0 loss to the Sky Sox at Cheney Stadium on Tuesday night.

The left-hander Friedrich (1-1) limited the Tacoma lineup to just two hits over 7.1 shutout innings and struck out six on the way to collecting his first victory of the season.

A pair of home runs spoiled an otherwise solid night for the Rainiers pitching staff. First baseman Chad Tracy hit a solo home run off Tacoma starter Matt Fox in the second to give Colorado Springs a 1-0 edge. Catcher Wil Nieves added some insurance for the Sky Sox with a one-run home run in the ninth.

The right-hander Fox (0-2) allowed just one run on four hits and fanned five over a 5.0 innings in a losing effort. Relievers Oliver Perez and Cesar Jimenez combined to allow one run on four hits and struck out one through 4.0 innings of work.

Infielder Scott Savastano accounted for two of Tacoma's three hits in the outing, belting a triple in the third and adding a double in the sixth.

The Rainiers (3-3) play the third game of their four-game set with Colorado Springs (3-3) at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11. Right-hander Jeff Marquez (0-0, 15.75) is scheduled to get the start for Tacoma against Sky Sox right-hander Guillermo Moscoso (0-1, 3.60).
