Tacoma Rainiers News Release
SACRAMENTO, CA - The Tacoma Rainiers (17-13) struck out 15 times, falling in their third straight game to the Sacramento River Cats (20-10) by a score of 4-0, Thursday at Sutter Health Park.
Sacramento got on the board in the third inning, scoring on an RBI double from Luis Matos and a throwing error from starter Dallas Keuchel. The game stayed 2-0 until the sixth, when the River Cats scored again.
Marco Luciano ripped a two-run single off Keuchel, making it 4-0. For Keuchel, it marked his third straight loss after starting the year 2-0 with Tacoma. He allowed the four runs (three earned) on six hits and four walks, not striking out a single batter in his 5.0 innings.
Opposite Keuchel was Spencer Howard, who spun 4.0 scoreless innings. He allowed just three hits and struck out eight of the 15 batters he faced. He was followed by three relievers who kept the Rainiers off the board.
The three relivers combined for 5.0 scoreless frames, allowing just two hits while striking out seven. The shutout earned Sacramento their third straight win over Tacoma.
POSTGAME NOTES: With their three straight losses to start the series, Tacoma has now dropped seven road games in a row, dating back to April 18 at Las Vegas. Tacoma had more hits (16) in their six-inning rain-shortened game on Sunday than they have combined for in each of the first three games at Sacramento (15). For the third consecutive night, Tacoma did not score a run against Sacramento's starting pitcher. River Cats' starters have now tossed 13.0 scoreless innings, allowing just five hits and five walks while striking out 16.
Tacoma and Sacramento will play game four of their six-game series tomorrow night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:45 pm. For more information and tickets, visit https://www.milb.com/tacoma.
