Rainiers Roughed Up By Albuquerque

The Tacoma Rainiers struggled to keep up and dropped their series opener with Albuquerque 8-4 at Cheney Stadium on Tuesday.

The loss pushes the Rainiers back into second place in the PCL's Pacific Northern Division, a half-game behind Salt Lake, who beat Memphis on the road earlier in the evening.

After tying the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth, the Rainiers watched the Isotopes break the game open in the top of the next inning with four runs on three hits. Outfielder Jamie Hoffman scored Russ Mitchell and John Lindsey to get things going, with first baseman Michael Restovich driving in Hoffman with a two-run home run to cap things off in the next at-bat.

The Rainiers rally earlier in the outing to tie things up with the 'Topes was kick started in third when infielder Matt Mangini scored shortstop Jeffrey Dominguez from third base on a groundout to first. Designated hitter Brad Nelson hit the equalizer in the in the bottom of the next frame, blasting a two-run homer run with catcher Rob Johnson aboard at second.

Nelson ended the night leading the Rainiers lineup, recording a double and a home run with two RBI and two runs scored. The first baseman Restovich was the highlight for Albuquerque, going 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and driving in three runs.

Isotopes starter Tim Corcoran earned his sixth win of the season after holding Tacoma to three runs on five hits over six innings, while striking out four.

Rainiers starter Ryan Feierabend suffered his sixth loss of the season with Tacoma, giving up six runs, five earned, on eight hits with three walks and three strikeouts.

Tacoma takes on the Isotopes for the second game of their four-game series with Albuquerque at 7pm on Wednesday. The Rainiers send left-hander Ryan Rowland-Smith (1-1, 5.06) to the mound, with right-hander John Ely (4-2, 6.12) slated to get the start for the Isotopes.
