New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Former Zephyr Jason Lane hit a two-run homer, part of a six-run outburst in the fourth and fifth innings for the Las Vegas 51s, who held off a late Zephyrs rally for a 7-6 win on Wednesday night.

The Zephyrs grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second on a two-run homer by Bryan Petersen and an RBI single by Cameron Maybin, but the 51s would score the game's next seven runs.

In the fourth, former Tulane star Brad Emaus hit a two-run double to score Chris Lubanski and Lane, who had led off the inning with singles. Another pair of former Zephyrs contributed to the rest of the rally, as Manny Mayorson drew a two-out walk, and Raul Chavez belted a two-run double into the left-center field gap to give Las Vegas a 4-3 lead.

Lane's home run against Zephyrs starter Tom Mastny (4-4), a towering drive over the center field wall, extended the lead to 6-3. Mastny took the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits in five innings.

Las Vegas starter Lance Broadway (3-11) held the Zephyrs hitless from the third inning into the sixth, when the Z's put runners at the corners with one out. But Broadway got Brett Carroll to bounce into an inning-ending double play to end the threat.

The 51s lead grew to 7-3 in the eighth, as Emaus led off with a single and scored on a double by Aaron Mathews. The run proved to be important, as the Zephyrs rallied in the bottom of the ninth against Jeremy Accardo.

With one out, Scott Cousins doubled and scored on Maybin's single. Mike Lamb blasted a line drive off the right field wall to move Maybin to third, and a throwing error by Mayorson allowed the runners to move up, cutting the Las Vegas lead to 7-5.

After Brian Barden grounded out to the pitcher, Danny Richar fought off several two-strike pitches to line a single to left, scoring Lamb and bringing the Zephyrs within a run. John Raynor worked out a walk to put the tying run in scoring position before Petersen flied out to center to end the game.

The series is even at one game apiece heading into Thursday's 7:00 p.m. contest, with Zephyrs right-hander Nic Ungs facing 51s southpaw Luis Perez.
