Round Rock Express News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Collin DeLome hit his second grand slam of the road trip, and Casey Daigle stranded two runners in the ninth as the Round Rock Express defeated the Portland Beavers 4-2 Wednesday night at PGE Park. The Express (52-73) lead the series two games to none, winning consecutive road games for the first time since June and consecutive road games against the same opponent since winning the first three games of a series May 11-13 at Salt Lake. The Beavers (48-77) have lost three straight.
DeLome had only one hit on the night, but it was the game-winning hit. His grand slam - his team-leading third of the season - came with one out in the sixth and snapped a scoreless tie. Round Rock had four of its nine hits in that inning as Drew Locke, Brian Bogusevic and Matt Kata had successive singles to load the bases ahead of DeLome.
Portland did not get on the board until the ninth inning, plating two runs on two hits and an Express error. Cedric Hunter led off the frame and reached on an Anderson Hernandez fielding error. Two batters later, Nick Green delivered a one-out single. Dusty Ryan followed with a double to center, scoring Hunter and Green. After Daigle struck out pinch hitter Kyle Phillips, Luis Durango walked to bring the potential winning run to the plate. However, Daigle struck out pinch hitter Wily Mo Pena to quell the threat and end the game.
Express starter Yorman Bazardo (4-4) earned the win, his second in as many starts. He worked 6.0 scoreless innings, scattering four hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Roy Corcoran struck out the side in a scoreless seventh and worked around a pair of singles in a scoreless eighth before giving way to Daigle to start the ninth.
Portland starter Radhames Liz (7-8) took the loss; he surrendered eight hits - including DeLome's grand slam - and a walk with three strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Greg Burke, Scott Munter and Mike DeMark combined to hold Round Rock scoreless on one hit and two walks with five strikeouts over the final three frames, each working one inning.
Bogusevic, Kata and J.B. Shuck all had two-hit nights. Mike Baxter was 3-for-4 for the Beavers, while Green and Sean Kazmar, who was lifted for Pena in the game's final at bat, each had two hits.
Round Rock and Portland continue their four-game series Thursday with a 9:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at PGE Park. Right-hander Shane Loux (3-11, 5.90 ERA) starts for the Express, while right-hander Cesar Carrillo (4-12) is slated to go for the Beavers.
