Rainiers Roll In Win Over Salt Lake

Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers took advantage of a steady performance on the mound and some solid production at the plate to end a three-game skid and beat Salt Lake 6-1 on Saturday.
The Rainiers got a jumpstart on the Bees after scoring a pair of runs over the second and third innings to go up 2-0 early. Outfielder Greg Halman's single drove in Mike Carp in the second, while Chris Woodward's single in the third was enough to bring in Ezequiel Carrera.
After having each of their previous four games decided by just one run, the Rainiers made sure to add some insurance in the bottom of the fifth. Tacoma infielder Jack Hannahan was hit on an errant throw by Salt Lake starter Sean O'Sullivan with the bases loaded to up the lead to 3-0. Designated hitter Tommy Everidge followed suit and drove in two more with a force out one batter later.
The effort on Saturday was capped off by a solo home run from second baseman Chris Woodward, his second of the season, in the bottom of the eighth inning. Woodward led the team following a 2-for-3 night at the plate with two RBI.
Left-handed starter Luke French earned his second win of the year after allowing one run on four hits through 6.2 innings, ending the night with two walks and five punchouts.
Salt Lake's O'Sullivan was tagged with his second loss after watching five Rainiers score on six hits through five innings of work.
The Rainiers enlist the help of a big league arm when return the field tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. Cy Young Award winner Cliff Lee will take the mound in his Mariners franchise debut as he faces off against Bees right-hander Trevor Bell.
