Round Rock Express News Release

DES MOINES, Iowa - Gustavo Chacin worked into the eighth inning, and Jason Bourgeois collected three hits and two RBI as the Round Rock Express defeated the Iowa Cubs 5-1 in Sunday's series opener at Principal Park. The Express (6-11) have won five straight against the Cubs (7-10), dating back to last season.

Chacin (1-1) scattered five hits and a walk with three strikeouts over 7.1 innings to earn the win. The lone run he allowed was Wellington Castillo's two-out solo homer in the fourth. Gary Majewski retired five straight to end the game and collect his first save of the season. Majewski entered the game with runners on the corners and one out in the eighth and stranded both runners.

Meanwhile, Jason Bourgeois paced the Express offensive attack, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, a double and a run scored. Chris Shelton tallied two RBI, while Brian Bogusevic and Jason Castro each had two hits.

Bourgeois singled to open the game and later scored on Shelton's sacrifice fly as the Express led wire-to-wire. In the fourth, Oswaldo Navarro doubled with one out and scored on Bourgeois' single. After Castillo's fifth-inning homer, the Express responded with Castro's RBI single in the seventh. Bourgeois added an RBI double in the eighth, and Shelton capped the scoring later that inning with a bases-loaded walk.

Iowa starter Jay Jackson (2-2) took the loss, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts over 5.0 innings.

Round Rock and Iowa will play a doubleheader Monday as the teams make up Saturday's game that was postponed due to rain. First pitch for the first of two seven-inning games is scheduled for 5 p.m. CDT. Right-hander Andy Van Hekken (1-1, 1.53) is scheduled to start the opener, and left-hander Polin Trinidad (0-0, 2.45) is scheduled for the nightcap. The Cubs counter with right-handers Thomas Diamond (1-0, 2.25) and Casey Coleman (0-2, 4.82), respectively.
