Tacoma Rainiers News Release

Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers struggled to overcome some early troubles in a 7-3 loss to Fresno at Cheney Stadium on Sunday.

The Grizzlies recorded four of their seven total runs on five hits over the first three innings of action en route to clinching a series win in the first meeting between the two teams this season.

The early outburst once again found Tacoma trying to erase an early deficit, with the Rainiers now having been outscored 21-4 over the first four innings of their four-game set with the Grizzlies.

Fresno first baseman Brett Pill followed a 5-for-5, three-RBI effort last night with a three-hit, three-RBI outing to lead the Grizzlies on Sunday. Shortstop Chris Woodward was the breadwinner for the Rainiers, extending his hit streak to nine games with three hits and a run scored.

Fresno starter Eric Hacker earned the win for the Grizzlies, surrendering just two runs on seven hits with three walks and four strikeouts over six innings of action.

Starter Ryan Feierabend was tagged with his second loss in the left-hander's third start for the Rainiers this season. Feierabend allowed five runs to score on 12 hits with one walk and three strikeouts over a 5.2-inning effort.

Tacoma now hits the road and heads to Colorado Springs to begin a four-game series with the Sky Sox on Monday. Going to the mound for the Rainiers in the outing is right-hander Jarrett Grube in his first start since joining the team on June 7, with left-hander Josh Muecke getting the nod for Colorado Springs.
