Reno Aces News Release

RENO, Nev. - Reno took a slim one-run lead into the ninth inning on Sunday afternoon, but Salt Lake rallied for a game-tying run in the frame and three more in the 10th to knock-off the Aces 8-7 at Aces Ballpark.

With the game knotted at four in the seventh, Cole Gillespie tripled down the left-field line, chasing home Tony Abreu with the go-ahead run. The game would stay that way until Salt Lake's Cory Aldridge reached safely on a two-out infield single to second in the ninth inning, allowing the tying run to cross for Salt Lake.

In the top of the 10th, the Bees used an RBI single by Gary Patchett and a two-run home run for Peter Bourjos to jump ahead by three runs.

In the bottom of the 10th, Jeff Bailey smashed a solo home run and Yunesky Sanchez rapped an RBI single to pull the Aces to within one, but Reno would leave men on first and second as Ed Rogers grounded out to end the game.

Aces starter Kevin Mulvey did not figure into the decision, scattering four runs on seven hits over six innings of work. The loss fell to Luis Ayala (1-5), who surrendered the tying run in the ninth and the go-ahead run in the 10th.

The victory went to Michael Kohn (2-0), who held Reno silent over the eighth and ninth innings. Amalio Diaz came on in the bottom of the 10th and bent but didn't break, earning his first save of the season.

Abreu, Gillespie and Jeff Bailey all recorded a multi-hit effort on the day for Reno. John Hester, optioned back to Reno by the Diamondbacks on Saturday, returned to the Aces lineup with a double and a run scored.

The Aces now hit the road for a pair of four-game series in Sacramento and Fresno, respectively. First-up is a Monday night match-up with the River Cats, in which Reno will send LHP Zach Kroenke (1-2, 5.51 ERA) to the mound to face River Cats righty Clay Mortensen (8-2, 3.97 ERA). First pitch from Raley Field is set for 7:05 p.m. PT.

The Aces return home on June 22 for a four-game set with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.
