Tacoma Rainiers News Release
TACOMA, Wash. -- The Tacoma Rainiers fell behind early and never caught up in a 3-2 loss to the Reno Aces at Cheney Stadium on Tuesday night.
Tacoma gave up what proved to be an insurmountable three runs on four hits in the top of the first inning. Alfredo Marte drove in the first run of the night on a sacrifice fly, and Andy Marte doubled the score with an RBI double two batters later. Garrett Weber plated the Reno's third and final run on a ground out hit to second base.
Nick Franklin trimmed the Rainiers deficit down to 3-1 and extended his season-high hitting streak to 10 games after lining an RBI double with one out in the third. Two batters later, Gabriel Noriega brought the Rainiers within a run after driving in Jesus Montero with a single.
As team, Tacoma combined to collect 10 hits against the Aces on Tuesday. Noriega, Montero and Corey Hart each led the club with two-hit efforts. Hart is batting .306 (11x36) with five extra-base hits and four RBI through the first nine games of his Major League rehab assignment with the Rainiers.
Starter Erasmo Ramirez (1-4) was dealt the loss after surrendering three runs on six hits in 6.0 innings. The right-hander struck out five and walked one in his sixth turn in the Rainiers rotation this season. Relievers Todd Coffey (1.0) and Chance Ruffin (2.0) combined to strike out four in 3.0 innings of relief work.
The Rainiers (39-45) host the third installment of a four-game series with Reno (47-39) at 7:05 p.m. tomorrow, July 2. Right-hander Matt Palmer (1-4, 4.76) is slated to start for Tacoma against Aces right-hander Trevor Cahill (0-1, 4.85).
