Cubs Activate Mateo

Des Moines, IA - The Chicago Cubs have activated RHP Marcos Mateo from the disabled list today and sent RHP Zak Hermans to single-A Kane County.

Mateo has been out since June 20, and last pitched in a game on June 17. The Dominican Republic native has no record, a 5.94 ERA (11ER/16.2IP), and two saves in 17 relief appearances this season. Mateo, in his seventh season in the Cubs organization, is 1-4 with a 5.20 ERA (37ER/64IP) over parts of four seasons in his Iowa career.

Hermans made his triple-A debut in a spot start for the Cubs in game two of yesterday's double-header. The Princeton graduate was charged with two earned runs on four hits, two walks, and two strikeouts in 3.1 innings. He returns to Kane County where he compiled a 2-2 record with a 4.76 ERA (9ER/17IP), six walks and 11 strikeouts in nine appearances.

The Cubs and Storm Chasers play game four of their five-game series tonight at 7:05 at Principal Park. LH Chris Rusin (5-10, 4.16) toes the slab for the Cubs against LH Ryan Verdugo (4-2, 4.29). The Cubs will salute the Iowa National Guard by wearing special camo hats during the game. The action will be broadcast live on AM 940 and streamed live on iowacubs.com with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45.
