Reno Aces News Release
TACOMA, WA - Lucas Harrell and the Aces bullpen got all the support they needed in the first inning when they plated three runs and dispatched the Rainiers, 3-2, Tuesday night at Cheney Stadium.
Tony Campana opened the game by hitting the second pitch he saw down the left-field line for a double. Danny Dorn followed with a bunt single to put runners at the corners for Alfredo Marte.
The Aces left-fielder knocked in his 44th run of the season with a deep fly ball to left that brought Campana home. With one out, Mike Jacobs lined a single to the opposite field to put two on again. This time it was the other Marte who delivered a big hit as Andy laced a double down the left-field line to plate Dorn and send Jacobs to third.
It brought up Garrett Weber who was playing in his first game with Reno after being called up from Double-A Mobile. Weber came through with an RBI groundout to give the Aces a 3-0 lead.
Harrell worked around early trouble as the Rainiers left a pair of runners on in each of the first two innings.
They finally broke through in the third when Nick Franklin sent a double to deep center, scoring Choi from second and sending Jesus Montero to third. Harrell battled back and retired Stefen Romero on a groundout to third to keep Montero at third and Franklin at second.
Harrell was nearly out of the inning with minimal damage when Gabriel Noriega lined a 1-1 pitch up the middle for a base hit. Montero scored easily to make it 3-2, but Campana fired a strike to the plate to cut down Franklin for the final out of the inning.
They cut down another Tacoma runner at the plate in the fifth. It was Dorn who threw out Hart trying to score on a fly ball to left hit by Franklin. It also ended the inning and kept the Aces lead at 3-2.
Both teams missed opportunities late as Reno left seven runners on over the final four innings. Tacoma's fate was similar as they left eight runners on base.
Derek Eitel worked the seventh and eighth and struck out three while holding the lead for Jake Barrett who set the Rainiers down in order in the ninth.
Game three of the series is set for Wednesday night. Right-hander Trevor Cahill (0-1, 4.85) starts for the Aces against right-hander Matt Palmer (1-5, 4.76) for the Rainiers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
