Tacoma Rainiers News Release

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers win streak came to a halt at five games after falling to the Nashville Sounds 11-2 at Cheney Stadium on Thursday night.

After a rain delay postponed the start of the game by 45 minutes, Nashville wasted no time taking an early lead over the Rainiers. Hunter Morris, Scooter Gennett, Hainley Statia and Blake Davis each drove in runs en route to the Sounds jumping ahead 5-0 through the top of the fourth inning.

First baseman Nate Tenbrink cut Tacoma's deficit down to 5-2 after belting a two-run home run in the bottom of the frame, but back-to-back home runs from Nashville's Blake Lalli and Josh Prince broke the game open for the Sounds again in the top of the fifth.

As a team, the Rainiers combined to collect six hits in their series finale with the Sounds. Carlos Peguero and Abraham Almonte accounted for two-thirds of that total after each outfielder collected a pair of singles. Peguero has hit safely in 13 of his last 15 games, and Almonte is riding a six-game hitting streak.

Starter Jeremy Bonderman (2-4) was dealt the loss after surrendering eight runs on 11 hits over 5.0 innings. The right-hander recorded one strikeout and issued one walk in his tenth start this season.

The Rainiers (29-19) now embark on an eight-game road trip that opens at the Reno Aces tomorrow, May 24. Left-hander James Paxton (2-3, 4.35) is slated to start for Tacoma in the contest against right-hander Zeke Spruill (1-1, 4.88) for the Aces. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
