ROUND ROCK, Texas - A four-run first inning put the Round Rock Express (25-23) in a hole it could never climb out of as the Memphis Redbirds (25-21) took the series opener at AutoZone Park, 7-0 Friday night.

Express starter Ryan Feierabend started shaky and never regained the dominance he exhibited in his previous start against Colorado Springs when he allowed just one run over 7.0 innings. The southpaw gave up four runs in the bottom of the first inning Friday night as the E-Train's road skid hit five games.

Two singles and a sacrifice fly to start the game put the first run on the board for the Redbirds. With one out, Memphis restarted its offense with another single off the bat of second baseman Kolton Wong who finished the night 3-for-5. A double by third baseman Jermaine Curtis plated Wong but the scoring for the inning was only half over.

Feierabend walked the next batter and then gave up a RBI single as Memphis took a 3-0 lead with still only one out. The Redbirds finally recorded a second out, but it was productive, as a RBI ground out finished the scoring for the inning.

The Express offense never had a chance to get started against Memphis starter Maikel Cleto as the right-hander allowed just five singles on the night. After Cleto exited following the sixth, the bullpen was stingy, allowing one hit over the final 3.0 innings as the Express put just five runners in scoring position on the night (0-for-5).

Second baseman Yangervis Solarte was the only Round Rock batter to post a multi-hit night, his fourth over his last five games as the switch-hitter finished the game 2-for-4.

The Redbirds added a run in the fourth and a two-run homer in the seventh to make the final score 7-0.

Cleto earned the victory, improving to 2-2 while Feierabend (1-1) suffered his first loss.

The Express continues its road trip with game two of a four-game set against the Memphis Redbirds Saturday night. First pitch at AutoZone Park is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. For more information on the Express, visit www.RoundRockExpress.com or call (512) 255-2255.
