Fresno Grizzlies News Release
Fresno, Calif. - Mike Kickham won his third straight start after holding the Oklahoma City RedHawks to one run in the Fresno Grizzlies' 4-1 victory on Thursday at Chukchansi Park. The Grizzlies ended the homestand with a 6-2 record and remain in first place in the Pacific Southern Division.
Kickham surrendered four hits, matching his season-low, over 6 1/3 innings. The 24-year-old is 3-1 with a 1.72 ERA and a .214 batting average against over his last five starts.
Kickham's only struggles came in the first inning when he allowed back-to-back two-out singles. The left-hander struck out Fernando Martinez to end the inning, his first of four punchouts in the start.
Kickham walked Martinez to lead off the seventh inning, but Kickham induced a force out to get the first out of the inning. The left-hander was spelled by Jake Dunning, who allowed a double to the first batter he faced Austin Wates, to cut the Grizzlies' lead to 2-1.
Gary Brown and Johnny Monell each hit a home run to back up Kickham's start. Brown's solo shot made it 2-0 in the fifth inning while Monell's two-run blast provided insurance to Fresno's advantage in the eighth inning.
Monell had a double to go along with his home run to finish with two hits. Brown added a single and a walk to reach base safely three times in the game.
Jackson Williams and Juan Perez hit consecutive doubles to lead off the third inning to plate the Grizzlies' first run. Perez finished the game 2-for-4 with an RBI and stolen base.
Heath Hembree threw a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his 13th save of the season. The right-hander is tied for the PCL-lead in saves.
Jarred Cosart suffered the loss for Oklahoma City after allowing two runs over six innings. The right-hander struck out six and walked two.
The Grizzlies will hit the road for an eight-game road trip, beginning with a four-game series at Colorado Springs. Game one is on Friday at 6:05 pm PST. Right-hander Boof Bonser will toe the slab for Fresno and go against right-hander Chris Volstad.
