Fresno, Calif. - Second-half substitute John Alex Caceres scored one goal and had two assists over seven minutes to help the Fresno Fuego rally from a 2-0 deficit and beat LA Misioneros FC 4-2 on Friday at Chukchansi Park.
The Fuego, who scored three goals between the 70th and 77th minutes, benefitted from Caceres' energy coming off the bench. Caceres set up the first Fuego goal by finely placing a lob pass to Paul Islas, who worked the ball to the front of the net and buried the goal to make it 2-1 LA Misioneros.
Not even two minutes later, Caceres set up the game-tying goal by passing to Tyler Reinhart, where he completed the play with the Fuego's second goal. Then in the 77th minute, Caceres scored a goal of his own and gave the Fuego the lead to complete the comeback.
Omar Santoyo added the Fuego's fourth goal when he finished Islas' crossing pass in the 93rd minute.
The Fuego remain undefeated in the PDL regular season with a 2-0-1 record. Both wins have come against LA Misioneros.
The Fuego were unable to solve the LA Misioneros goalkeeping in the first half despite outshooting the opposition 8-5. Only four of the Fuego's eight shots were on goal.
LA Misioneros forward Kyriah Nmabueze scored in the fifth minute after he intercepted an errant clearing pass by Fuego goalkeeper Gilbert Vega and made it 1-0 LA Misioneros.
After over 10 minutes of LA Misioneros not recording a shot, midfielder Vincent Weijl worked the ball towards the center of the penalty area where he buried a goal to give LA Misioneros a 2-0 advantage in the 45th minute.
The Fuego will return to action on Thursday, May 30 at Chukchansi Park when they face Ventura County for a 7 pm match.
