Tacoma Rainiers News Release
Tacoma, WA - The Tacoma Rainiers let home runs get the best of them in a 10-7 loss to the Fresno Grizzlies in front of 6,579 fans at Cheney Stadium on Friday night.
Of the 10 runs Fresno scored against the Rainiers, eight came off four homers. The first of which came in the first inning, with Brett Pill hitting a three-run shot, his 14th of the season, to send the Grizzlies to a quick 3-0 lead.
A bases-loaded groundout by Luis Jimenez and an RBI-single from Mike Wilson cut Tacoma's deficit down to one run in the bottom of the first before the Grizzlies answered back with five more runs over the next two innings. Edgar Gonzalez singled in two runs in the second and Justin Christian hit a three-run homer in the third.
The Grizzlies stretched their lead to five runs after Brad Eldred hit a solo home run to lead off the fifth inning and Pill hit his second long shot of the evening, a one-run blast, with one out in the sixth.
Infielder Kyle Seager collected a pair of singles with one run scored and one RBI. Seager has now hit safely in each of his first eight games with Tacoma, with seven multi-hit outings. Outfielder Ryan Langerhans went 2-for-4 to extend his hit streak to 15 games and he has reached base safely in 21 consecutive appearances.
Grizzlies starter Shane Loux (4-9) picked up the win after holding Tacoma to six runs on 11 hits over 5.1 innings with three walks and four strikeouts.
Starter Chris Seddon (5-5) had his streak of quality starts end at four games in a losing effort. The left-hander surrendered a season-high nine runs on 10 hits over five innings with five walks and six strikeouts.
The Rainiers (39-43) look to bounce back into the win column when the club returns to action on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. for the third game of their four-game set with the Grizzlies. Knuckleballer Charlie Haeger (1-2, 8.83) is slated to take the mound for Tacoma against Fresno right-hander Josh Banks (5-4, 6.32).
