Ransom Lifts Aces Past Bees, 17-8

RENO, Nev.- Pacific Coast League RBI leader and All-Star Cody Ransom went 4-for-5 with five runs driven in Friday, powering the Reno Aces to a 17-8 win over the Salt Lake Bees in front of 8,394 fans at Aces Ballpark.

Ransom, who has driven in nine runs in the Aces' past two games, now has 79 RBIs in just 77 games played this season. He hit a three-run home run for the second-consecutive day, and has 16 more RBIs than anyone else in the league.

Ransom was one five Aces batters with a multi-hit game Friday, helping Reno set a new season high with 17 runs. Ten of the Aces' 18 hits went for extra bases, including a double and a triple each for Konrad Schmidt and Evan Frey. Andy Tracy and Brandon Allen homered for Reno, which won for its fourth-straight game and ninth time in its last 11 contests.

Aces reliever Jeff Bennett (2-0) picked up the win in relief of starter Rafael Rodriguez, who allowed five earned runs in three-plus innings of work. Bennett tossed three scoreless frames, striking out two and walking just one Bees batter.

Matt Palmer (3-8) suffered the defeat, giving up 11 runs-eight earned-on 11 hits in 4.1 innings pitched.

The first-place Aces take on the Bees in the third game of this four-game set Saturday evening at Aces Ballpark. Aces RHP Gaby Hernandez (2-1, 5.29 ERA) will take the ball against Bees RHP Bear Bay (5-4, 4.76 ERA), with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. Saturday is Superhero Cape Night, with 2,500 fans receiving an Aces superhero cape. In addition, there will be another post-game fireworks show after Saturday's game before Sunday's Independence Day celebration presented by KTVN Channel 2 News.
