Rainiers Fall to Aces, 7-1

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (34-25) dropped a 7-1 contest with the Reno Aces (31-28) on Thursday night at Cheney Stadium.

The Rainiers notched six hits during the contest, three of which came off the bat of Boog Powell (3x4) who scored the only run of the game for Tacoma.

Starting pitcher Donn Roach tossed 5.1 innings and surrendered three runs. He allowed nine hits, while walking three and striking out three.

Tacoma jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Powell led off the frame by smacking a single into center field and came around to score on a RBI sacrifice fly from Efren Navarro.

Reno quickly answered with a run in the top of the second inning when catcher Tuffy Gosewisch lined a one-run double off the left-center field wall scoring Zach Borenstein, knotting the score at 1-1.

The Aces piled on six runs in the top of the sixth inning, highlighted by a three-run home run over the left-center field wall from first baseman Kyle Jensen, giving Reno the 7-1 advantage.

Relievers Casey Coleman and David Rollins worked the final 3.2 innings for Tacoma, allowing four runs (one unearned) on five hits, while striking out five.

The Rainiers and Aces continue their series with a 7:05 p.m. PT game tomorrow, Friday, June 10. Tacoma is scheduled to start right-hander Cody Martin (5-3, 5.55), while righty Edgar Garcia (2-2, 6.58) is slated to take the mound for Reno.
