Fresno Grizzlies News Release
FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Grizzlies' opponent on Sunday, June 12, the Salt Lake Bees, have announced right-handed pitcher Tim Lincecum is the scheduled starting pitcher against Fresno in the finale of the four-game series . First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. at Chukchansi Park. Fellow right-hander and Houston Astros prospect Brady Rodgers is scheduled to pitch for the Grizzlies, having just been named Astros Triple-A Pitcher of the Month following a 3-1 record in five May starts, with a 2.70 ERA. Rodgers struck out 36, walking just six in last month's action.
Sunday's pitching match-up is of special interest to Fresno fans who enjoyed Lincecum's incredible, albeit brief run with the Grizzlies in 2007 prior to his promotion to the San Francisco Giants. In five Triple-A starts, Lincecum went 4-0 with a 0.29 ERA in 31 innings for Fresno, striking out 46 in that span, one of the most dominating runs in Pacific Coast League history. Following Lincecum's promotion to San Francisco that season, he accumulated 108 Major League wins with the Giants through the 2015 season.
Honors Lincecum has earned during his career include:
- Member of three San Francisco Giants World Series Champions (2010, 2012, 2014)
- Consecutive National League Cy Young Awards (2008-2009)
- Three consecutive National League strikeout titles (2008-2010)
- Four consecutive MLB All-Star Game selections (2008-2012)
- Two MLB no-hitters in back-to-back seasons (2013-2014)
- 2006 Golden Spikes Award winner at the University of Washington as the best player in college baseball.
Should Lincecum face Grizzlies' first baseman A.J. Reed during Sunday's game, it will be a match-up of the 2006 and 2014 winners of the Golden Spikes Award. Reed earned the honors following his junior year at the University of Kentucky, as a two-way player. Reed himself pitched in college, despite his status as Houston Astros top position player prospect.
Upon signing with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim last month following the rehabilitation of a hip injury, Lincecum's assignment to their Triple-A affiliate at Salt Lake marked his first minor league/Pacific Coast League action since his incredible spring in Fresno nine seasons ago. Lincecum's start in Fresno will be his third during the assignment with Salt Lake.
While news of Lincecum's start in Fresno has been widely reported since Tuesday evening, probable pitching matchups are always scheduled to change with short notice. Tickets for Sunday's game at Chukchansi Park can be purchased anytime at FresnoGrizzlies.com, or at the Chukchansi Park box office during normal business hours or during the series versus Salt Lake that begins on Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
