Tacoma Rainiers News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Tacoma Rainiers pounded out 30 hits and cruised past the Colorado Springs Sky Sox 25-6 at Security Service Field on Wednesday night.

Tacoma collected the franchise's most hits and runs scored in a single game since the Rainiers era began in 1995. The hits and runs totals topped the previous high of 21 runs scored and 25 hits collected by Tacoma on June 28, 2004 at Sacramento.

The Rainiers recorded five or more runs in three different innings, including a six-run frame that got things started in the top of the first. Tacoma's lead grew to as large as 25-1 after posting a season-high seven runs in the seventh.

Four Rainiers recorded four or more hits, and a total of nine players turned in multi-hit outings for Tacoma on Wednesday. Leading the lineup was outfielder Abraham Almonte, who went 6-for-6 with six singles to become the first Rainiers player to collect six hits in a single game since Jerry Owens in 2005.

Outfielder Eric Thames and shortstop Brad Miller drove each in a team-high six runs in the contest. Thames went 4-for-7 with a double, and Miller ended the night going 3-for-7 with a double.

Second baseman Dustin Ackley went 5-for-6 with a two-run home run and three RBI in his second game since joining the Rainiers from Seattle earlier in the week. Nate Tenbrink submitted the team's other four-hit effort after going 4-for-6 with two doubles and a two-run home run.

Andrew Carraway (6-1) turned in his seventh quality start over his last eight appearances on the way to notching his sixth win of the season. The right-hander held Colorado Springs to two runs on six hits over 6.0 innings and struck out four with three walks issued.

Tacoma now owns a 1.5 game lead over the Sky Sox for first place in the Pacific Coast League Pacific Northern Division standings.

The Rainiers (33-21) play the third game of the team's four-game series at Colorado Springs (30-21) at 6:05 p.m. tomorrow, May 30. A not-yet-named pitcher will start for Tacoma against Sky Sox right-hander Ramon Colon (0-1, 0.00).
