Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

Colorado Springs, CO - The Tacoma Rainiers (33-21) started fast and never let up as they overwhelmed the Colorado Springs Sky Sox by the score of 25-6 on Wednesday evening at Security Service Field in front of 4,194 fans. The win gives Tacoma a 1.5 game lead in the Pacific Northern Division.

Tacoma plated six runs in the first inning off Sox starter Chris Volstad (L, 2-1) and batted around for the first of three times on the night. They also batted around in the fifth and sixth innings. All of the Rainiers starters had multi-hit games and scored a run. Abraham Almonte led the way with a 6-for-6 night (all singles) and Eric Thames and Brad Miller each drove in six runs. They became just the second pair of teammates to plate six runs in the same game against the Sky Sox joining Prince Fielder and Corey Hart who accomplished the feat on August 6, 2005 with Nashville.

Andrew Carraway (W, 6-1) was the beneficiary of the huge offensive attack as he picked up his sixth win of the season. Carraway finished up with six innings of work giving up two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four.

The Sky Sox offense did churn out 11 hits and six runs in the game which normally would be of note. Greg Golson tripled in a run in the second, the team's PCL-leading 34th three-bagger, and Matt McBride smacked his 11th home run of the month in the sixth to give the Sox a couple of early runs. Josh Rutledge launched a two-run bomb in the seventh for his first long ball since joining the team and Charlie Culberson doubled in two more runs in the ninth but the efforts fell considerably short.

Game three of the four-game series is set for tomorrow night at 7:05 PM. RH Cory Riordan (3-1, 5.60) will take the mound for the Sky Sox against RH Jonathan Arias (0-0, 9.45).
