June 21, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders took the series finale in Moosic with a 3-1 victory over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. The RailRiders now lead the Iron Rail Rivalry, winning 7 of 12 this season vs. the Pigs.
A two-run double by Brandon Drury capped off a three-run rally in the fifth inning for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Cole Irvin (8-3) went seven innings for the Pigs allowing eight hits and striking out three. All three RailRiders runs came in the fifth inning.
Thursday marked the 12th consecutive start that Irvin has gone at least six innings. This is the first time since May 2017 that Irvin has been tagged with back-to-back losses.
The Pigs offense was limited to just a solo home run in the top of the first inning by Collin Cowgill.
They loaded the bases in the fourth and fifth innings but could not score. The Pigs were 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left 11 runners on base. Lehigh Valley had runners in scoring position in five innings but could not push them home.
Cowgill and Joey Meneses each had three hits in the ball including a pair of extra-base hits. Matt McBride doubled in the bottom of the eighth to extend his hitting streak to seven games.
The RailRiders' bullpen in relief of starter David Hale allowed just two hits in 4 1/3 innings. JP Feyereisen (3-1) tossed 2 1/3 innings, picking up the victory. Feyereisen allowed just one baserunner before turning the ball over to Joe Harvey who added a scoreless inning of relief. Cody Carroll (6) recorded the final three outs in the ball game to close out the series for the RailRiders.
The Pigs begin the second leg of their IL North road trip Friday when they open a three-game series in Buffalo. Drew Anderson will take the ball for Lehigh Valley against Chris Rowley for Buffalo.
The Pigs return home next Monday against the same RailRiders. The four-game series will feature Little League Night, two youth giveaways and #LVWantsLeBron Night on June 28.
