From the Notes

ABOUT YESTERDAY: For a third time in as many games, the Indians overcame a deficit en route to a 5-3 victory. Kevin Kramer blasted a tiebreaking two-run homer in the sixth to propel Indy to its 13th win in the last 17 games. The Tribe are now a season-high seven games over .500. The Tides scored two runs on four hits against Nick Kingham in the fourth, but the Indians rallied for three runs in the fifth off Asher Wojciechowski to go up 3-2. All three of those runs came with two outs, as Kevin Newman hit a two-run double ahead of an Erich Weiss ringing RBI double into the right-field corner. Norfolk evened the score in its next at-bat thanks to Drew Dosch's second RBI single of the game, but Kramer gave Indy the last laugh with his career-high 11th home run of the year. The Indians raked 12 hits, led by Newman's three-hit performance atop the order and multi-hit games from Weiss, Jordan Luplow and Kramer. Bo Schultz worked around two singles in the ninth for his third save, sealing Kingham's fourth win with Indy this season.

LAST 17: The Indians have won 13 of their last 17 games, a stretch that includes series wins vs. Scranton/W-B (2 of 3), at Rochester (3 of 3), at Pawtucket (2 of 3), vs. Toledo (3 of 4) and vs. Norfolk (2 of 2). The run began on June 2 with an 8-0 win over the RailRiders. Indy has gone from 25-27 to 38-31, gaining five games (8.5 to 3.5) on division-leading Toledo along the way. The Indians have outscored their opponents 89-52 over their last 17 games, averaging 5.2 runs per game and surrendering just 3.1 runs per contest.

FRAZIER RECALLED: Tribe infielder/outfielder Adam Frazier started yesterday's game but was removed after three innings of play. He went 1-for-1 at the plate but was recalled by Pittsburgh in the middle of the game, forcing him to exit and fly to PNC Park, where the Pirates were eventually rained out against Milwaukee. Frazier, 26, hit .200 (6-for-30) with three doubles, two RBI and one stolen base in eight games with the Tribe.

ALL-STAR VOTING UPDATE: The International League released its last All-Star voting update today before voting concludes on Friday night at 11:59 p.m. ET. The Indians have a number of players in contention for All-Star bids. Johnny Hellweg is currently the top vote-getter among IL relief pitchers, and Kevin Kramer is second behind Durham's Kean Wong at second base. Kevin Newman is third at shortstop, and both Christopher Bostick (OF) and Jacob Stallings (C) are fourth at their respective positions. Eric Wood is fifth among designated hitters while Tyler Eppler comes in seventh among starting pitchers.

KRAMER AND THE LONG BALL: Tribe infielder Kevin Kramer belted his team- and career-high 11th home run in yesterday's victory. His previous career high for homers was six, all of those coming with Double-A Altoona last year. He has 10 home runs since May 1, making him one of 10 players in Triple-A and one of three in the IL (also: GWN Danny Santana - 10, LHV Joey Meneses - 13) with 10-plus dingers since that date. His 10 homers since May 1 (45 games) matches his career total of 10 through his first three minor league seasons (233 games). Last year, Indy had two players with 11 or more home runs prior to the All-Star break; Max Moroff had 13 in 160 at-bats and Eric Wood had 11 in 279 at-bats.

STALLINGS STILL HITTING: Tribe catcher Jacob Stallings is on a 10-game hitting streak thanks to his one-out double in the seventh on Tuesday night. During the stretch, the 28-year-old is batting .371 (14-for-38) with one home run, four doubles, four RBI and eight runs scored. He has scored all eight of those runs over his last five games.

RYAN RAKING: Indy's second catcher, Ryan Lavarnway, is red-hot at the dish, too. He is riding a season-high nine-game hitting streak into tonight's contest. Lavarnway finished 1-for-4 with a run scored in yesterday's triumph. He owns a tremendous .904 OPS through 27 games and is batting .303 (27-for-89) with three homers, one triple, six doubles and 11 RBI on the season. He is batting .419 (13-for-31) with all three of his home runs this season, one double, six RBI and five runs scored during his hitting streak. He has reached base safely in 20 of his last 21 games.

SEVEN FOR KEVIN: Kevin Newman has hit safely in seven straight games, going 12-for-30 (.400) to raise his average from .297 to .309, the fifth-best mark in the IL. He is also first in the IL with 40 runs scored, tied for second in hits (77) and second in stolen bases (14). He has been a better hitter when behind in the count this season, owning a .348 average (32-for-92) in those situations, compared to a .238 clip (15-for-63) when ahead in the count. His two-run double on an 0-2 pitch in the fifth gave him a team-leading 10 RBI when behind in the count this season, despite ranking eighth on the team in overall RBI with 18.

KING OF THE CASTLE: Nick Kingham improved to 4-1 with a 2.06 ERA (10 ER/43.2 IP) in eight starts for the Tribe this season. Over his last 13 games (12 starts) at Victory Field (including his playoff start at home against Durham in September), he's 8-2 with a 2.03 ERA (18 ER/80.0 IP). If you subtract his last regular-season home start in 2017 (3.2ip, 8er), his ERA at home shrinks to a ridiculous 1.18 ERA (10 ER/76.1 IP) since July 2 of last year.

JUNG HO: Kang led the Tribe offense with three singles and three RBI Tuesday night but missed yesterday's game with a left wrist injury. He's day-to-day. Kang knocked a game-tying single in the sixth and provided the Tribe with much-needed insurance in the eighth on Tuesday, grounding a two-run single up the middle to make the score 4-1. His three hits marked his second straight multi-hit performance and third overall in a Tribe uniform (also: 2 hits on April 26, 2016 at Durham). He is batting .545 (6-for-11) during his current three-game hitting streak.

LOCKED UP THE TIEBREAKER: The Indians are 10-2 in their last 12 games against the Tides and 4-1 this season, clinching the season series over Norfolk with yesterday's win. Indy has outscored Norfolk 61-41 in its last dozen head-to-head matchups. Indy currently holds a 1.5-game lead over the Tides in the IL Wild Card race.
