Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Durham offense proved too strong for the Louisville Bats (26-42) as they fell 13-3 in the final game of the series on Thursday night at Louisville Slugger Field. This was the final meeting for the two teams and in ten match-ups this season, the Bats went 4-6 against the Bulls.
Louisville starter Jose Lopez (3-7, 4.76) took the loss going just 2.1 innings, allowing eight earned runs from ten hits and surrendering two home runs while striking out four on 74 pitches (47 strikes).
Durham's Forrest Snow (4-4, 3.62) earned the win, pitching six scoreless frames through seven innings, allowing one earned run (a solo homer) from five hits while walking one and recording five strikeouts on 80 pitches (53 strikes).
The Durham offense opened the game with two back-to-back doubles when a subsequent fielder's choice, followed by a fielding error gave them a 2-0 lead. The offensive threats continued into the second when Jeremy Hazelbaker sent a 369-ft home run over the wall to add one more to the lead.
The runs started to accumulate for the Bulls in the third. A home run to center field beckoned a Louisville pitching change as Zach Neal entered in relief. The Bulls went on to steal home and hit a single to make it 8-0. Before the innings end, Ji-Man Choi came up to the plate to score a three-run homer to make it an 11-0 Durham lead.
It was in the sixth that the Bats "Senzation" made his mark. With his fifth home run of the season, Nick Senzel pelted a 413-foot home run to right center field to put the Bats on the board.
Both teams were kept silent in the fourth and fifth innings but it wasn't quiet for long. Ji-Man Choi came back to the plate for Durham to score his second homer of the night, a two-run shot to left field to make it 13-1.
Despite a 13-1 deficit, the last run of the night was a blinder. Nick Senzel smacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth to provide a silver lining at the end of the game. Tonight marks his first multi-homer game of the season and he is now on a 12-game hit streak.
The Bats remain at home for the weekend to take on the Norfolk Tides in a three-game series. Left-handed starter, Brandon Finnegan (2-5, 5.50) will start for the Bats in search of his third win for the season. He will go up against Norfolk southpaw John Means (2-1, 4.25). The first pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
