Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Moosic, Pa. - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) made his five straight wins by stifling the Charlotte Knights 3-0 on Monday night at PNC Field. The RailRiders (21-18) own consecutive shutouts and three overall. The Knights fell to 21-16.
Bryan Mitchell and Junior Guerra (0-2) waited through a one hour rain delay before squaring off on the mound. Mitchell dealt five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and issuing four walks. He struck out five. Guerra allowed a run in two out in the sixth inning as part of five hits on the night. He walked three and fanned seven.
Tyler Webb (1-2), Mark Montgomery and Jacob Lindgren combined for the final four innings. Webb held the Knights scoreless for 1.1 innings. Montgomery dealt a perfect frame and Lindgren nailed down his third save. The southpaw overcame an erratic command to hold the Knights off the scoreboard for 1.2 innings. SWB pitching has not allowed a run in their last 26 innings.
Ben Gamel broke the stalemate in the sixth inning. Kyle Roller singled with two away and moved to second on walk by Tyler Austin. Gamel drove in Roller with a hard single to center.
Looking for some insurance, Ramon Flores and Rob Refsnyder worked back-to-back bases on balls to set the table in the eighth. Roller bounced a comebacker to reliever Shawn Haviland, allowing the runners to advance into scoring position. Austin drove a 1-2 pitch into right, scoring Flores on the sacrifice fly. Gamel followed with his second hit, this one a single to right, allowing Refsnyder to score from third.
Refsnyder extended his on-base streak to 20 games with a double in the first inning. He finished the night with two walks and a run scored.
The RailRiders continue their homestand on Tuesday, May 19 against the Charlotte Knights (Chicago White Sox). SWB is slated to start southpaw Matt Tracy (0-0, 3.50) against right-hander Brad Penny (2-3, 5.40). It will be a T-Shirt Tuesday, presented by Norwegian Cruise Lines.
