(Pawtucket, RI) - The Scranton RailRiders withstood a late rally from the Pawtucket Red Sox and hung on for a 4-3 win on Tuesday night at McCoy Stadium. 'Riders starter Joel de La Cruz kept the PawSox scoreless for five innings before four relievers held on to earn Scranton a series-clinching win in front of 5,134.

The RailRiders jumped on Pawtucket starter Jess Todd for three runs in the second. A leadoff double by Kyle Roller ignited the rally; Austin Romine and Tyler Austin were then walked. Ben Gamel singled to left to score Roller and give the 'Riders their first lead. Nick Noonan then bounced into a double play to score Romine and double the lead. Cole Figueroa capped the second-inning scoring with a base hit to left that made it 3-0.

Scranton tacked on a run in the fifth. Mason Williams began the inning with a double to right. For the Pawtucket native, it was his third hit of the series and his seventh in 27 AAA at-bats. He scored when Ramon Flores - the next hitter - singled to center.

After Todd departed the game after six innings, Jonathan Aro came on and dominated for two innings. He struck out three, allowed no hits and walked just one to keep the PawSox in striking distance.

Pawtucket clawed back to within a run with a seventh-inning rally. Facing Diego Moreno, out for his second inning of relief work, Allen Craig led off the inning with a hit to center. With one out, Luke Montz doubled to left to get the PawSox on the board. Luis Jimenez then reached on an infield single. The PawSox got two-out, run-scoring hits from Mike Miller and Jackie Bradley, Jr. and it was 4-3.

Pawtucket used some savvy managing to keep it a one- run game. After Robbie Ross walked Figueroa to start the ninth, Williams sacrificed him to second. After Ramon Flores struck out, Rob Refsnyder was intentionally walked to allow Ross to face the left-handed Roller. Ross prevailed; his strikeout ended the top of the ninth.

The PawSox got the tying run on base in the bottom half of the inning when pinch hitter Bryce Brentz drew a two-out walk. Miller then flied out to deep right field to end the game.

The two clubs will conclude the three-game series Wednesday afternoon at 12:05. Scranton will send Yankees' ace Masahiro Tanaka to the mound for a rehab start; Pawtucket will counter with Keith Couch (2-5, 4.53). Radio coverage on WHJJ and online will begin at 11:50.
