Chiefs Drop Game Two in Norfolk

Norfolk, VA (May 26, 2015) - The Syracuse Chiefs dropped the second game of a four-game series to the Norfolk Tides, 3-1, Tuesday night at Harbor Park. Eddie Gamboa threw six no-hit innings in a piggyback role behind T.J. McFarland to help the Tides to a second straight win to start the series.

Syracuse (17-28) took an early lead on its first two batters of the game. Emmanuel Burriss reached on a bunt single to lead off the game, and stole second base. Burriss scored on a double by Tony Gwynn, Jr. to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead.

Syracuse would not pick up another hit until Josh Johnson singled with two outs in the ninth. Gamboa came in for the top of the second inning and shut down the Chiefs bats with his knuckleball. Though he walked four and hit a batter, Gamboa did not allow a hit in his six innings of relief.

Norfolk (25-21) grabbed the lead for good in the second. Christian Walker doubled off Mitch Lively to start the inning. After a groundout, Michael Almanzar singled to left to put runners on the corners with one out. Audry Perez then singled in Walker to tie the game at one. Two batters later, Rey Navarro hit a sacrifice fly to left field, deep enough to score Almanzar and give the Tides a 2-1 advantage.

The Tides added the final run of the game in the fifth inning off Erik Davis. Major-League rehabber Ryan Flaherty walked to start the inning, and moved to third on a single by Navarro. Two batters later, Nolan Reimold doubled, scoring Flaherty to give the Tides a 3-1 lead.

Steve Johnson finished off the Tides' eight-inning, bullpen shutout with two scoreless innings for the save.

The Chiefs and Tides play game three of the four-game set Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. Scott McGregor is scheduled for Syracuse opposite Michael Bowden for Norfolk.
