Buffalo Bisons News Release

For the second straight game, the Indians got their offense going quickly in a victory over the Bisons.

Indianapolis built an early 4-1 lead before Gorkys Hernandez's grand slam in the fifth inning sealed a 10-5 win over Buffalo on Tuesday night at Coca-Cola Field. The defeat is the third straight setback for the Herd.

Indy scored eight times in the first three innings on Monday night to take the series opener over Buffalo, 8-4. They wasted little time to once again gain an advantage of the Bisons to win the series heading into Wednesday's finale.

The Indians plated a run in the first inning when a rundown on the bases took too long. They used four more hits in plate three runs in the third for a 4-1 cushion. Two innings later, Hernandez won an 11-pitch battle with Bisons starter Andrew Albers, hitting a grand slam to deep left-centerfield to put the game out of reach.

In what was a bizarre way to start the game, Indy scored a run in the first inning on a strike 'em out throw 'em out double play. With two on and one out, Albers struck out Brent Morel. Blue Jays catcher Dioner Navarro, rehabbing an injured hamstring with the Herd, noticed Steve Lombardozzi off the bag at first base and threw down to a covering Matt Hague. But Lombardozzi stayed in the rundown long enough for Gustavo Nunez to score all the way from second base for the game's first run.

The Bisons tied the game at one in the second inning on Luke Scott's first Bisons home run, but Indy came right back with three in the third. Lombardozzi and Morel strung together RBI-singles to drive in two of the three runs.

After Hernandez's slam made it 8-1 Indy, the Bisons scored three of their own in the bottom of the fifth on Chris Dickerson's bases-clearing double. The Indians scored two more in the seventh before the Herd tallied one last time on a doubleplay in the ninth.

Navarro caught seven innings in his debut with the Bisons. The Jays' catcher went 1-3 with a double in his three at-bats.

The Herd will look to salvage the final game of the three-game series Wednesday afternoon with a 1:05 p.m. first pitch.
