RailRiders Beat Chiefs on Season-Finale Eve

Syracuse, NY (9/6/2015) - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 4-0, on Sunday night in the penultimate game of the season. Syracuse pitchers combined for eight strikeouts.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (81-62) opened up the scoring in the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Kyle Roller and Rob Segedin hit back-to-back singles to put runners on first and second. After a fly out, third baseman Cito Culver singled to left, scoring Roller and giving the RailRiders an early 1-0 lead.

The RailRiders added to their tally in the top of the fifth. Juan Graterol, Jake Cave and Ali Castillo all singled to begin the inning, which loaded the bases for Slade Heathcott. Heathcott promptly singled to left, scoring both Graterol and Cave and increasing Scranton/Wilkes-Barres' lead to 3-0.

For the third straight inning, the RailRiders scored against the Chiefs, this time in the top of the sixth. With one out, Graterol singled and then advanced to second when Cave reached on a fielding error by Chiefs starter Taylor Jordan. Jordan then walked the final batter he faced, Castillo, to load the bases. Bruce Billings came in in relief and gave up an RBI single to Heathcott that gave Scranton/Wilkes-Barre a 4-0 lead.

Despite the loss, the Syracuse (65-78) pitching staff had a solid outing. Jordan struck out four in five and one-third innings of work. Billings struck out four as well, while only allowing one walk in two and two-thirds innings. Finally, Bryan Harper pitched one scoreless inning, only walking one batter.

The Chiefs play their final game of the 2015 season on Monday afternoon against the RailRiders with first pitch set for 1:05 p.m. Right-hander Paolo Espino will take the mound for the final time for Syracuse to face a starter to be announced.
