Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, IN August 30, 2015 - The Gary South Shore RailCats fell behind early and often in a 9-2 loss to the New Jersey Jackals of the Can Am League Sunday. The loss sent the South Shore to a three game losing streak and they dropped the series to the Jackals three games to one.

In the first inning facing RailCats starter AJ Quintero the Jackals got RBI on three consecutive doubles from Mark Threlkeld, Leandro Castro and Matt Helms to get all the run they would need to make it 4-0. They picked up four more in the second on a double from AJ Kirby-Jones and a two run home run from Threlkeld, who drove in five for New Jersey. He followed the homer up with an RBI single in the fourth to make it 9-0.

The RailCats got a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth with Michael Vaughn and Elbert Devarie driving in a run each off of New Jersey starter John Walter but Gary never got any closer. Walter (10-2) went seven for the Jackals scattering eight hits, while striking out six getting the win. Quintero (1-4) dropped his third straight start giving up nine earned runs in five innings. Kevin Osaki did work four scoreless innings for the RailCats in relief.

Following an off day the RailCats will travel to St. Paul for the final road trip of the year to face the Saints Tuesday through Friday at CHS Field. St. Paul has the league's second best record, while the RailCats were eliminated from post season contention with the loss Sunday. The game can be heard on 95.9 WEFM and online at RailCatsBaseball.com.
