Another Day, Two More Franchise Records in 10-3 Win

KANSAS CITY, KS (August 30, 2015) - There are 23 current players on the St. Paul Saints roster. You could have picked 22 other names before picking the one guy that hit the home run which set the St. Paul Saints franchise record for homers in a season. With one mighty swing of the bat, however, Sam Maus hit his first professional home run, the 97th of the season for the Saints breaking the 1999 team record of 96, as the Saints took down the Kansas City T-Bones 10-3 on Sunday afternoon at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The victory was also the 19th in the month of August, surpassing the 18 wins in 2004 and 2005, finishing the month 19-9.

The Saints clubbed three home runs on the day, but the most amazing was Maus'. What made Maus' home run even more improbable was he didn't start the game. In the seventh inning Maus pinch ran for Ian Gac, who has 225 home runs in his career. In the ninth Angelo Songco led off with a solo homer, his 16th of the season giving him 79 RBI on the season, one shy of tying the single-season franchise record of 80 set by David Kennedy in 1997. Up stepped Maus who drilled a 1-2 pitch over the left field wall for his first home run in his career. It was the third time this season the Saints have gone back-to-back.

With the Saints trailing 2-1 in the fourth and runners at first and third and two outs Dan Kaczrowski tied the game with an RBI single. Up stepped Alonzo Harris who crushed a three-run homer to left-center, his 13th of the season, to give the Saints a 5-2 lead, a lead they wouldn't give up. Harris finished the day 3-4 with a home run, three RBI, three runs scored and a season high three stolen bases. Harris now has 36 stolen bases, two shy of Adam Frost's single-season record of 38 set in 2013.

Dustin Crenshaw worked 5.0 innings allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four earning his 14th win of the season. He tied Patrick Johnson of Sioux City and teammate Kramer Sneed for most wins in the American Association. The league record is 15 set by Josh Lowey of Wichita in 2012.

The Saints also got their first look at reliever Kevin Cravey, who they signed as a free agent on Friday and was out of baseball last year, last pitching in 2013 in the Florida Marlins organization. With a low 90s fastball and sharp curve he worked 2.0 perfect innings of relief striking out three.

The Saints have Monday off and return to action on Tuesday night in a four game series against the Gary SouthShore Railcats at 7:05 p.m. No pitching match-up has been announced, Savers hosts the 5th Annual Zombie Baseball Crawl. The game can be seen on the Saints Cable Network, cable access channels in the Twin Cities area, heard on Club 1220 KLBB and in the ballpark on 97.9 FM.
