Joplin Blasters News Release
Joplin, MO-The Blasters posted their second walk-off win of the week in their final home stand with a 3-2 victory over Grand Prairie Saturday night at Joe Becker Stadium.
Joplin (50-42) has won four straight and taken the first three games of the four-game series with the AirHogs. The Blasters still sit one game back of the wild-card lead after Laredo won at Amarillo Saturday. Grand Prairie (28-64) has lost nine straight.
The Blasters took an early lead with a single mark in the second. Steven Tinoco reached on a one-out single to right. With two outs, Aaron Brill singled sharply on a liner to right and Tinoco scored from second as he slid around the catcher's tag at home. Joplin added another run one inning later. In the third, Jairo Perez smacked a solo home run deep to left into the bleachers for a 2-0 advantage. It was Perez's sixth round-tripper of the season.
After a scoreless fourth, Grand Prairie leveled the game with two in the fifth. Michael Pair led off the inning with a solo home run deep to left. It was Pair's first homer of the season. With one out, Robi Estrada singled on a line drive into left-center. A wild pitch moved Estrada to second. Ronnie Richardson then tied the contest 2-2 with a double deep to the gap in right-center.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the ninth. Leading off for Joplin, Maikol Gonzalez punched a line-drive single up the middle. Gonzalez then stole second and later scored the game-winning run on an Oscar Mesa single that bounced up the middle and past the infielders into center. It was Joplin's seventh walk-off victory of the season.
For the Blasters, Winston Abreu picked up the win on the mound. Abreu (5-1) pitched the ninth and kept the game tied with two strikeouts. Colin Allen suffered the loss for Grand Prairie. Allen (1-5) failed to record an out in the bottom of the ninth and gave up one earned run on two hits.
Joplin outhit the AirHogs 10-to-8. Maikol Gonzalez and Jairo Perez both collected two hits. Brian Frazier and Ronnie Richardson each had two hits for Grand Prairie. The AirHogs committed three errors on the night. The Blasters made one error and left 11 men stranded.
Joplin faces Grand Prairie in its final home game of the season Sunday night. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05. For 2016 ticket information and promotion specials at Joe Becker Stadium, call 417-622-4838 or visit the Blasters website at www.joplinblasters.com.
